Areas to Serve

Providing physical and spiritual refreshment to those who serve and are being served with a gospel message.
Prepares and delivers meals to people in our community who are unable to prepare meals for themselves.
Provides a monthly breakfast and programming for our seniors.

Sharing God's hope and offering healing while walking with the hurting.
Providing hope and healing to our community by offering educational support and enrichment to students.

SOUP KITCHEN

Lead a team of cooks responsible for all phases of meal preparation for large groups (50-200 ppl) in a commercial kitchen, including food prep, cooking/seasoning, plating/packaging, cleaning equipment and surfaces, sweeping, and mopping. Provide instructions to cooks as needed.


Commitment: Tuesday 2:30-7:00pm, serving on a nine-week rotation.


Skills needed: A clear understanding of operating and cleaning commercial kitchen equipment. Organized, ability to work within time constraints, and ability to run a safe kitchen operation.

Assist the head cook in all phases of meal preparation for large groups (50-200 ppl) in a commercial kitchen, including food prep, cooking/seasoning, plating/packaging, cleaning equipment and surfaces, sweeping, and mopping.


Commitment: Tuesday 2:30-7:00pm, serving on a nine-week rotation.


Skills needed: A clear understanding of operating and cleaning commercial kitchen equipment. Ability to work with a team and take direction from the kitchen manager and/or head cook. Organized, ability to work within time constraints, and ability to maintain a safe kitchen operation.

Bake using a recipe for larger groups (50-200 ppl) in a commercial kitchen, then clean equipment and surfaces, sweep, and mop.


Commitment: Mondays for 2-3 hours between 5-9pm, serving on a nine-week rotation.


Skills needed: The ability to follow a recipe and learn the use of needed commercial kitchen equipment (oven, mixer, etc.).

Greet guests and check them in, recording their names and number of meals they are receiving.


Commitment: Tuesday 4:30-6:30pm, serving on a nine-week rotation.


Skills needed: Smiling! Warm, friendly, and engaging personality. Ability to quickly look up and record guests and their meal requirements.

Serve food to guests and refill drinks. Clear tables of plates and deliver to dishwasher, wipe tables, and mop.


Commitment: Tuesday 4:30-7:00pm, serving on a nine-week rotation.


Skills needed: Smiling! Warm, friendly, and engaging personality. Ages 10+ (with parent). Ability to carry conversations with people of varied ages.

Part of the team responsible for washing and sanitizing dishes and cookware in a commercial kitchen.


Commitment: Tuesday 4:30-7:00pm, serving on a nine-week rotation.


Skills needed: No experience required, Ages 14+.

Drive to designated locations to pick up food donations.


Commitment: Typically Thursdays 11:00am-12:30pm.


Skills needed: Valid driver's license (if driving). Ability to load and unload boxes typically less than 20lbs.

Monitor and manage traffic flow in and out of the main and overflow parking lots.


Commitment: Tuesdays 4:30-6:30pm.


Skills needed: No experience required.

HOMEBOUND

Cooking meals in a commercial kitchen to be delivered to those in our community who are homebound.


Commitment: Meals are prepared every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Most of our cooks serve once a week, 9:00-11:00am.


Skills needed: A clear understanding of operating and cleaning commercial kitchen equipment. Ability to cook using a recipe, package meals by 10:30am, and then clean up the kitchen. Work well with others.

Meal packager/cold meal prep involves preparing cold meals in a commercial kitchen to be delivered to those in our community who are homebound.


Commitment: Meals are prepared every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Most of our cooks serve once a week, 9:00-11:00am.


Skills needed: A clear understanding of commercial kitchen cleaning procedures. Ability to assemble a sandwich and package up meals by 10:30am, and then clean up the kitchen. Work well with others.

Deliver prepared meals to those in our community who are homebound.


Commitment: Most of our deliverers are delivering one day per month, while some choose to deliver more frequently. Meals are delivered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Arrive by 10:30am, and plan for deliveries to take 1-1.5 hours.


Skills needed: Must be able to drive and follow directions. Deliver meals with warmth and a smile.

Schedule and train kitchen volunteers. Be available or find substitutes for volunteers who can't show up for their shift.


Commitment: One week per month Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9:00-11:00am. Be on the ready! If someone doesn't show up, drop what you're doing and jump in to help.


Skills needed: A clear understanding of operating and cleaning commercial kitchen equipment. Lead a team of cooks and provide instruction as needed. Organization, time management, and safety are required. Serv-Safe certification required.

SENIOR BREAKFAST

Support all phases of meal preparation for large groups (75-125 people) in a commercial kitchen, including food prep, cooking/seasoning, plating, cleaning equipment and surfaces, sweeping, and mopping.


Commitment: Thursday 7:00-10:00am, serving every other month from September through May.


Skills needed: An understanding of operating and cleaning commercial kitchen equipment. Ability to work with a team and take direction from the kitchen manager and/or head cook. Organized, ability to work within time constraints, and ability to maintain a safe kitchen operation.

Bake using a recipe for larger groups (75-125 people) in a commercial kitchen, then clean equipment and surfaces, sweep, and mop.


Commitment: Wednesday afternoon/evening for 2-3 hours, serving every other month from September through May.


Skills needed: The ability to follow a recipe and learn the use of needed commercial kitchen equipment (oven, mixer, etc.).

OUTREACH

Engage and build relationships through conversation with our Soup & Soul dinner guests. Goal is to love and encourage with biblical truth.


Commitment: Varied. Tuesdays 4:30-7:30pm, serving once every three weeks.


Skills needed: General Bible knowledge. Good listener, compassionate, empathetic, and easily able to connect with new people.

Pray for Soup & Soul meal guests during the Tuesday dinner hour in the War Room.


Commitment: Tuesdays 5:00-6:00pm.


Skills needed: A love for Jesus and our guests.

Block Party event coordination and setup, facilitating communication between staff, hosts, and volunteers.


Commitment: Seasonal, April through August. Approximately 3-5 hours per week, with potentially more hours during the summer.


Skills needed: Good communication and organizational skills. The ability to work effectively with all ages.

Going into the community with the block party trailer team to engage with community, having Christ-centered conversations with children. Have fun while meeting the needs of the community. Help run games, serve food, and help with event setup and cleanup.


Commitment: July through August, 3 hours per week. Could also participate in fall events if desired.


Skills needed: Smiling face! Love Jesus, love people. Flexible, focused, faithful, and determined to carry out commitment. Desire to learn new and innovative activities to run during events. Ability to carry out conversation with a variety of ages.

Drive the Suburban (towing the Block Party trailer) to Revivals and community events.


Commitment: July through October, 3 hours per week (less if multiple qualified drivers can take turns).


Skills needed: Safe driver, clean driving record, and current license. Must have experience towing a trailer with a larger vehicle.

Drive the Relief Truck to Revivals and community events.


Commitment: Anywhere from several times a month to several times a week; can vary depending on needs.


Skills needed: Safe driver, clean driving record, current license. Must have experience driving large vehicles.

DrivRespond and assist to the repair needs of the community.


Commitment: Anywhere from several times a month to several times a week. Can vary depending on needs.


Skills needed: All levels of skill from all trades, including: mechanical, carpentry, painting, landscaping, electrical. Also need men and women to help with unskilled labor, including raking leaves, carrying materials, shoveling snow, and more.

COUNSELING

Provide individual counseling to clients as assigned.


Commitment: Days and times of the week are flexible. Asking for a two-year commitment.


Skills needed: Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field. 10+ years experience is preferred.

Commitment: Each tutoring session lasts 45 minutes, with a 5-10 minute parent conference. Tutors may sign up for as many or as few time slots as they wish within the following sessions: Monday 4:45-5:30pm, Wednesday (as needed) 4:30-6:15, and Thursday 4:30-7:15pm.


Skills needed: Requires application interview to determine the best fit.

Greet students at the door and check them in on the iPad. Invite parents to sit in the cafe and have a cup of coffee and a snack. Walk students to their tutor in the cafe. Clean up the cafe at the end of the night.


Commitment: One night a week, with one-month commitment at a time.


Skills needed: Friendly smile, ability to make people feel welcome and at ease. Punctuality and a heart to serve faithfully as needed.

EVENT SUPPORT

Greet guests with friendliness. Let guests in and direct them to the right people. Answer the phone, taking detailed messages or sending to voicemail as needed. Send, receive, and deliver mail and packages to staff. Preparing the area to receive guests: turn on the iPad for sign-in, turn on the hallway music, and turn on the slide show in the waiting room. Keep office fresh and welcoming.


Commitment: Occasional as needed to fill weekday, daytime slots.


Skills needed: Friendly, kind voice, and professional appearance. Ability to ensure waiting area is clean, fresh, and welcoming at all times.

Help prepare items for (non-kitchen) events: assemble bags for the homeless, backpacks for students, treats for Soup & Soul guests, and other similar projects.


Commitment: Occasional. 1-2 hours per event as needed, flexible timing.


Skills needed: Willingness to learn and follow directions.

Set up rooms for ministry and community events.


Commitment: Occasional, 1-3 hours as needed.


Skills needed: Some heavy lifting may be needed to set up tables, chairs, and other furniture; placing decor and table settings as needed.
